Nishikawa Sukenobu

1671~1750
He was a painter born in Kyoto. He studied painting under Eino Kano (狩野永納) and Mitsusuke Tosa(土佐光祐). Also, he drew many book illustrations so he was known as an illustrator too. He drew a painting named “Hyakunin Joro Shinasadame”(百人女郎品定:A rank of one hundred women) in 1723. He depicted many women in different hierarchy and this picture gained high popularity. His style of paintings had a great influence on a painter, Harunobu Suzuki(鈴木春信).
