He was a Zen monk born in Fukui pref. He studied under the Zen master of Sogen-ji temple (曹源寺), Taigen (太元), and succeeded to the teaching of Taigen. After he became the chief monk of Nansyu-ji temple (南宗寺), he returned to Sogen-ji temple.
