He was a calligrapher who defined a generation from Syowa era to Heisei era. He studied under Yasushi Nishikawa(西川寧) and putted effort into his works and a study of Japanese classics. His various works are rated highly in the world. Also, he made efforts to spread Chinese calligraphy. He won the Order of Culture in 1992.
