He was a Japanese-style painter born in Tokyo. He studied painting from Yoshitoshi Tsukioka (月岡芳年) and Gekko Ogata (尾形月耕). He was good at Nohgaku-e (能楽絵: the painting of Noh). Noh(能) is Japanese traditional theater.
