He was a painter, tea master, and seal-engraver. He studied painting and seal-engraving from Rinnkoku Hosokawa(細川林谷) and Chinese classical literature from Syouchiku Shinozaki(篠崎小竹). Also, he knew details about Sentya (煎茶: green tea).
