His family business was appreciation and polishing for swords. He was given land at Takagamine (鷹峯:the northern Kyoto) from Ieyasu Tokugawa(徳川家康) when he was 58 years old. He founded an art village called “Koetsu Village” (光悦村). There were many merchants and craft workers. He was a multifaceted person.
