Shimazaki Toson

1872〜1943
He was a poet and novelist born in Nagano pref. After graduating from Meiji Gakuin University, he participated in publishing of a magazine,”Bungaku-kai” (文学界:the literary world ). Beside teaching, he was active as a poet. He married Fuyuko Hata (秦冬子). His poems, “Chkuma-gawa Ryojo-no-uta”(千曲川旅情のうた: A poem of a Journey along the River Chikuma) and ”Senbetsu-no-uta” (惜別のうた: Sorrow of Parting) are still widely known and sung.
