Utagawa Toyokuni

1769〜1825
He was an Ukiyo-e artist born in Tokyo. He studied painting under Toyoharu Utagawa (歌川豊春). At first, he painted Bijin-ga (美人画: picture of beautiful women). Later, he painted Yakusya-e (役者絵: picture of Kabuki actor). He became a leading expert in the Ukiyo-e world.
