Sinnkai Taketaro

1868～1927
He was a carver born in Yamagata pref. He studied Japanese-style painting in his childhood. After military discharge, he studied carving under Sadayuki Goto (後藤貞行)　and Sojiro Ogura (小倉惣次郎). He went to Germany for study in 1900. He studied under Hertel at Berlin University of Arts. After he returning, he was appointed to “Teishitsu-gigeiin” (帝室技芸員: Imperial are expert). He targeted to the development of Japanese modern engraving.
