He was a Kano school painter, the 9th head of Kobikicho Kano family (木挽町狩野家). He studied painting under his father, Naganobu Kano (狩野栄信). He was conferred Hoin (法印) and Hogen (法眼: the rank among the Buddhist monk). He succeeded the head of family in 1828.He participated in the creation of the screen painting in Edo castle. He is regarded as the last expert in Kano school.
